For instance, some of the control trip setings "boot up" with plugin polyphonys of 32, which in Sculpture, will eat up tons of CPU. In CPU hungry softsynths, reduce the polyphony to the bare minimun you need to play the composed part. However, here's a huge tip to help you out: The length of a song doesn't, for the most part, affect the CPU. I am really trying to avoid having to purchase a new computer so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Everything I have learned has been from the Mac Pro Videoâ?s (extremely helpful) and a little bit from the manuals.Īnyway, I have told you everything I can and I hope that someone can help me figure out how to overcome this obstacle. I would feel much better if there were some local classes available for this type of work but I havenâ?t found anything. Unfortunately, I do not know very much about computers and sequencing software. Will someone please tell me whether or not I need to defragment and if so any tips on going about that process would be helpful. But maybe I do need to defragment because this program is so taxing on my computer.
When I went to apples website to find information on defragmentation, I found article number 25668 that says that because I use Mac OS X, then I probably wonâ?t need to defragment at all. The article also said to use a disk maintenance utility to regularly check and repair my drivesâ? directory structure and to make sure that my files are not fragmented. However, it would be extremely helpful if someone could tell me if I have adequate memory to run Logic. I upgraded my computer and gave it as much memory as it could take and I donâ?t think there is a way for me to give it more. But perhaps it is not.įor only three tracks it seems that I would have enough memory for the moment at least, but maybe I donâ?t. Since the back of the Logic Pro 7 box lists 512 MB of RAM I thought 1GB would be plenty.
The article said to make sure my computer has plenty of RAM.
In addition to that I read some postings in the Logic forum and got the idea that perhaps it is because I am using an aggregrate device that I am having this problem, so I switched over to only using my Edirol as a driver in my audio preferences. I have set Sample Accurate Automation to Off.
Under Logic Pro>Preferences>Audio>Generalġ3. I have frozen tracks that I am not currently working with (which actually does help alot but not as much as I hoped it would).
I have tried highlighting an audio rather than an audio instrument track during playback.ġ1. I set the Process Buffer Range to Large.ġ0. Since the Audio meter in system performance is peaking, I disabled Larger Disk Buffer.ħ. I have made sure that my drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).ģ. I have turned off all applications other than Logic.Ģ. Here are the things I have done to try and remedy my problem:ġ. I have combed the article and carefully followed itâ?s instructions. I went to the Logic Pro Support webpage and found an article that addressed my problem. Still, when I look at the system performance window it is very close to reaching the ceiling on the audio side, sometimes it does reach the ceiling and turn red, but it mostly stays in the upper part of the orange yellow color and into the plain yellow as well.
However, I do have gain on my bus 1 which contains the audio track and Evoc audio instrument. I donâ?t have any plug-ins directly on the tracks. The two audio instruments are from the Evoc PS and Sculpture. I am very surprised that this is happening to me because I only have 2 audio instruments and 1 audio track running (and only seven measures of it at that). I am using the midiman uno interface for my kawai MP9000 which I use as the midi controller and the edirol UA-5 audio capture as my audio interface for recording vocals. Anyway, this meets the requirements listed on the back of the Logic Pro 7 box. I have an iMac with an 800 MHz PowerPC processor, 1 GB of RAM, Mac OS 10.4.8, Quicktime 7.1.3, and 36.4 GB of available disk space (according to the system profiler: devices: IDE (ATA-4) Bus: Macintosh HD) (I list that information because I am not entirely sure that that is where I should have gone to find out how much available disk space I have, so I could be wrong and if I am then that may be a contributor to my problem). When I purchased Logic, I believed that I had equipment that would be sufficient to run the software. The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. I then recieve the following message: CoreAudio: System Overload. I am not able to continue with my work because the sound breaks then stops. In the attempt to create my first song, I have come to a major roadblock.
